5 Positive Ways to Start Your Day

The way you start your morning sets the tone for the entire day - both positively and productively.

When I had my marketing job, I felt like our mornings were so chaotic. We'd be rushing to get ready, rushing to make the kids breakfast, rushing to get them ready and then rushing everyone out the door. Now that I'm home with the kids, our mornings are certainly less of a whirlwind, but I've found that I don't really have a lot of time to prepare myself for the day. When this happens, our days feels like we're just flying by the seat of our pants and I'm not able to get as much accomplished as I'd like to.

In an effort to maximize my productivity at home and really just start each day on a good note, I started doing a little research. Let me tell you, there are so many great articles out there about the power of starting your day with intention. I was motivated just reading them all and couldn't wait to get started! I can tell you now that the last few weeks of my life since starting this practice have been so much more peaceful and productive, and I feel so good at the end of the day knowing how much I've accomplished. So, I thought I would share five of my favorite ways to start my day in hopes that it may help you too!

1. Wake up early.
A no-brainer but we all love our sleep, especially the mama's out there who are getting up with a newborn or looking for monster's under a 4-year-old's bed at 1:00 a.m. If you can set your alarm 20 minutes before you normally get up - and get up when it goes off - it will change your whole day.

2. Give yourself at least 15 minutes of no-screen time.
Start your day focusing on you and not what strangers are doing on Instagram or what inevitably sad and depressing stories they are sharing on the news. Resist the urge to check email too! If you need to, try disabling notifications on your home screen so you aren't even tempted.

3. Drink a glass of water with lemon before your morning coffee.
Water with lemon has so many health benefits when you drink it first thing in the morning. For one, it kick-starts your metabolism, which burns fat while sustaining muscle, it cleanses your mouth and throat, and gives you an awesome boost of energy. I've always heard this over the years but finally decided to try it a few weeks ago and my goodness, you can honestly tell a difference!

4. Make a to-do list.
Take a moment to reflect on the day ahead of you and write down everything you wish to accomplish. Because I tend to always write down more tasks that I can usually finish, I've started to make two sections: one for things I absolutely need to accomplish and another for things I would love to accomplish if I'm able. This helps me prioritize my list and also keeps me from feeling guilty for not getting an entire list knocked out in a day - because, who does that anyway?! You'll feel so good at the end of the day when you see how much you've marked off.

5. Take a few minutes to do something you enjoy.
Whether it's reading your favorite magazine, putting on a quick face mask, doing a few exercises, or all of the above, taking this time to fit in something that relaxes you in the morning will improve your mood and help keep you focused. Even if it's something little, you'll feel like you've already accomplished something - because you have!

Outfit Details

I've been wearing this top nonstop around the house. It's so comfortable and perfect for nursing! This brand (PinkBlush) was one I always chose for fun maternity clothes, but I'm almost getting to rediscover their entire brand now that I now they have non-maternity too!

Thanks so much for reading.

Have a great day!!
