Kid-Friendly Super Bowl Snacks

We are so excited for the Super Bowl this year and cannot wait to cheer on our Patriots! Brady is especially excited, as you can imagine, and hasn't wanted to take off his jersey all week. The Super Bowl is a perfect time to throw (or attend) a fun house party where you can let loose and treat yourself to a smorgasbord of healthy and not-so-healthy snacks. Now that we and almost all of our friends have little ones in tow, our Super Bowl parties definitely look a little different these days - with much less alcohol and much more food. I'm not mad about that!

If you know me by now, you know I love a good theme and the Super Bowl is no exception. So, I enlisted the help of Brady and Parker to put together some fun and easy recipes that will surely please a crowd of kids and adults alike. Check out some of our favorite recipes below and get ready to be the MVP of your Super Bowl party!

Peanut Butter Sugar Cookies

A delicious take on a regular sugar cookie but with some peanut butter flair. Oh. my. goodness these are good - especially with the chocolate icing on top. Nothing is better than peanut butter and chocolate, am I right? These little football cookie cutters were such a great find too and really made these cookies a big hit with the kids.

Ingredients:
• 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
• 1 cup sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup your favorite peanut butter
• 1 large egg
• 1/2 tablespoon vanilla
• 3 cups all purpose flour
• 1/4 cup water
• chocolate icing and vanilla icing

Recipe:
1. Preheat oven to 350º and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
2. In stand mixer with paddle attachment, mix cool unsalted butter, sugar and salt on lowest setting. You just want sugar to incorporate into the butter vs. blending it completely. Small chunks of butter in the mix at this point is okay.
3. Add peanut butter and mix again on lowest speed.
4. Add in cold egg and vanilla, continuing to blend on lowest speed just until incorporated.
5. Add flour to wet ingredients one cup at a time.
6. Add 1/4 cup water (or more) until dough gathers on the paddle and starts to clean sides of bowl.
7. Using a rolling pin, roll out dough on floured surface and cut into desired shaped.
8. Place on parchment paper and bake 8-10 minutes. You don't want them to brown so watch closely!
9. Move them onto cooling rack to cool completely.
10. Cover with chocolate icing (store-bought or homemade) and then place vanilla icing into piping tube or ziplock bag and draw laces on top!

Miniature "Pigskins" in a Blanket

A bite-size version of the childhood classic that's READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL thanks to a little condiment creativity.

Ingredients:
• 1 can crescent rolls
• 24 mini hot dogs (or vegan dogs)
• 1 teaspoon black pepper
• 1 teaspoon coarse salt
• ketchup and mustard
• Egg wash (1 egg)

Recipe:
1. Preheat oven to 375º and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Slice crescent rolls into thirds, put a mini hot dog on the wide end if the triangle then roll it up.
3. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle a little salt and pepper on top.
4. Place on parchment paper then bake for 15-20 minutes.
5. Use ketchup or mustard (or whatever you prefer) to draw football laces on top. I ended up putting mustard into a ziplock bag and cutting the corner ever so slightly so I had more control over the laces.

Patriot Buttons

This is one treat that the kids loved helping out with. It's so easy to make and you can totally customize them to your team's colors just from a regular bag of M&M's. Or you can always order exact colors online!

Ingredients:
• M&M's
• Rolos
• Pretzel snaps

Recipe:
1. Preheat oven to 250º and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Place pretzels on parchment paper then place a roll in the middle.
3. Bake in the oven for 2 to 2 1/2 minutes.
4. Add M&M on top of the melted Rolo.

Touchdown Layer Dip

A simpler yet more creative take on the the seven layer dip that will surely impress your Super Bowl party guests. You can definitely customize this dip however you like!

Ingredients:
• 1 can of refried beans
• sour cream
• shredded cheese
• guacamole
• ziplock bags (for piping)

Recipe:
1. In no particular order, begin adding each layer (except guacamole) in your dish. I started with the refried beans so it had a firm foundation. To get the layers as even as possible, start with a large dollop in the middle of your dish and spread out to each side with the back of a spoon.
2. Add guacamole on top and smooth out completely.
3. Using a toothpick or knife, trace out your yard lines, starting in the middle of the dish.
4. Place sour cream into ziplock bag, make a small snip in the corner, then begin tracing over your yard lines!
5. Once your lines are all set, place the remainder of your refried beans into a ziplock bag, make a slightly larger snip in the corner, then begin piping them into the shape of a football. Be sure to use your yard lines as a guide. Use the back of a spoon to smooth out the football afterwards.
6. Pipe sour cream over the top of the football to create your laces.

Have a great Super Bowl Sunday!
And, of course...

GO PATRIOTS!!!
