2019 New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year! I want to start by thanking you for supporting this blog of mine. Whether you've been reading for years now or are just coming here for the first time today, thank you. It's because of you that I'm able to do something I love so very much and finally call it a job! More on that below.

But first, let's talk resolutions. I'm a big fan of making resolutions because it's a wonderful opportunity to reset and refocus on the year ahead. It's so important for me to always be learning, growing and pushing myself so long as I'm living and breathing. When I was a little girl, people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I wouldn't give them just one answer; I wanted to be all the things - a fashion designer, a pediatrician, a figure skater, an elementary school teacher, an anesthesiologist, an actress, etc. I've always had this desire to keep doing more (or never sit still, as my husband calls it) so I love making resolutions and goals each year that act as an organized checklist of things to accomplish. I also love to share my resolutions here because it keeps me accountable, for one, and it's fun to look back and see how successful I was at accomplishing them all. (Check out my 2018 resolutions here!)

Last year (2018) was one wild ride. After finding out we were pregnant, a lot of the year felt like a blur. We didn't really know what to expect with three kids but we knew it was going to be crazy. Shortly after our sweet Charlie arrived and a few weeks before I was set to return to work, our childcare fell through. We had no backup plan and my head was spinning. After a lot of late night talks with my husband, a handful of breakdowns and some tears, I decided to leave my beloved marketing job. I've worked in advertising and marketing for the last ten years and so to walk away from that world and all of the wonderful people in it was incredibly hard. It still is.

But, you see, I've wanted to be a mother my entire life. Not only that, I've wanted to be a mother who could be at home with her kids while still working. (Because mothers can absolutely do both. Why does it have to be one or the other?) I've also wanted to eventually take House of Kubes full-time. And, I've wanted to open my own business. These have been my daydreams for years now.

So, I'm doing it!
All of it.

I've decided to not let fear hold me back anymore. As of today, House of Kubes is now my full-time job! And, in a few short weeks, I will be officially opening my very own business! I'll share more soon but I can say that it's been in the works for a little over three years now and I will be losing my mind (in a good way) when it's open.

I've been pouring my heart and soul into my blog and business over the last few weeks and I cannot wait to share all of the things with you. I'm also hoping to hear from you in the coming weeks regarding what you'd like to see more of here on my blog. I certainly want to get to know what it is you like to see here - whether it's fashion and interior design, recipes, motherhood or something I have yet to cover!

So with that BIG news out in the open, I can finally share my 2019 New Year's Resolutions:

1. Hustle.
With two new businesses under my belt, oh yeah and three kids, my biggest resolution this year is to hustle. This means a little less sleep and a lot more coffee, but the payoff is seeing my dreams finally come alive so I am here for it. "Do today what your future self with thank you for."

2. Run a 10K.

One of my 2018 Resolutions was to run a 10K and that definitely did not happen. It's funny because it was during my training for this 10K (which I was already signed up for) that I realized I might be pregnant. I was hitting the gym hard from New Years Day on and then in late January, there was a two day period where I had to stop the treadmill in the middle of my run to go pee. After the second day, I told Scott about my suspicions and he immediately went to buy a pregnancy test. The rest is history! So, I'm recommitting to this resolution in 2019 and am excited to start training again.

3. Sugar Free Weeks
I have the world's biggest sweet tooth and while I wish I could stay away from sugar altogether, I just can't. I've made resolutions before to "not eat any sugar all year" (hahaha) and I think the longest I ever made it was three weeks. It never helps that Girl Scout Cookies and Valentine's Day happen shortly after the new year too. I'm a sucker for those candy hearts! So, Scott and I decided to do something we did successfully a few years ago: Avoid processed sugar throughout the entire week and then indulge on the weekends. What we've found is that we never end up overdoing it on the weekends and eventually don't crave sweets as much!

4. Get (and Stay) Organized.

I used to be the most organized person in the world and then I had three kids. I want to be so much more intentional this year about keeping our house, our mail, our closet, our kitchen, everything so much more organized.

5. Explore.

Aside from a family trip to Minnesota, 2018 keep us close to home. While this year may be a little hectic, I want to make sure we take time out to explore new places together as a family - even if it's just an hour away from here.

6. Learn how to Skateboard.
Perhaps I'm having a quarter-life crisis but I went and bought myself a neon pink longboard in early December. Have I ever used a longboard before? No. Did I watch Blue Crush approximately 500 times in high school and want to be a surfer and longboarder who lives in Hawaii with two cool roommates when I grew up? Absolutely. The way I look at it, it's a new skill that I just waited a little while to learn. After all, I'm going to need a new hobby with all the free time I'll have this year.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to read House of Kubes today. Your support - from reading this post to liking my photos on social media and interacting with me day in day out - gives me the confidence to pursue these crazy dreams of mine.

I hope you'll continue to check back each week to see what's new here. And if you aren't already, be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram for daily updates.

Happy New Year!
