Flamingo Wallpaper | Kitchen Nook Makeover

I had been wanting to do something with our kitchen nook for the longest time. While I loved how white and crisp everything was, a large portion of our house looks the same way, so I was getting a little bored. I thought this corner would be the perfect place to play with some color and texture because it gets so much natural light.

Thankfully, my husband is a gem and didn't mind at all that I wanted to put pink flamingos on our wall.
(Either that or he is secretly plotting his revenge.)

Here's a *before* shot of the kitchen:

The wallpaper took about six hours to install and to be honest, I was a little intimidated at first. I have never installed, let alone touched, wallpaper before. My mother-in-law and I spent some time watching a handful of helpful how-to videos on the Wallpaper Direct website before we got started and we were actually able to make our way through it fairly confidently.

In addition to the wallpaper, I also added in a new rug. I wasn't sure how long it would last in the kitchen because of the excess amounts of food that gets dropped (or thrown) by the kids each meal, but it has actually turned out to be better than the tile alone. The pattern on the rug hides just about anything and all I need to do is a quick vacuum every other day! Perfect mom hack.

Aside from the casual Whole Foods flower purchase, we haven't had any other indoor greenery in our house and I knew I wanted that to change. I saw this faux fiddle leaf fig tree and thought it would be perfect to incorporate somewhere and perfect for me to keep alive (you know, since it's fake). It didn't take long for it to make its way to the kitchen. As you can tell, I'm still on the hunt for a great basket to put it in. If you have any recommendations, let me know!
